At the end of the month, let’s say you’ve taken in $100.00 of processing through the terminal for the point of sale. You take that amount of money, divided into the actual amount of money that’s being charged for your Visa, MasterCard and Discover. That number will equal a percentage—say 2 or 3 or 4 percent. That is your effective rate.
